About the Pilot

OiPub is a platform to discover and discuss research. Among other features, OiPub allows you to create tailored online research communities which are automatically populated with all relevant research papers and discussion. Our system is built around our tagging, broadcasting and privileges system which makes it easier and better than ever to discover the right information and share ideas with experts and peers in every niche.

Through the pilot, OiPub investigated and performed computational work on large datasets (especially OpenAire research Graph) to align the available data with our product vision and related systems. In parallel they built an internal alpha release of the product, demoed this with a concept video and ran a user survey that lead to key insights allowing us to fine tune the design for work that followed leading towards the first open beta targeted for release Sept 2023.

Pilot activities:

• Aligning the OpenAire Graph data dump with the internal Topic-based broadcasting systems in preparation for work on our platform’s broadcasting, ranking and sorting tools.
• Receiving user feedback leading to design tweaks for the upcoming open beta release.
• Received a significant funding grant that provided much needed financial support and allowed to accelerate and grow the business, thanks to EOSC DIH’s support.

HOW DID OiPub BECOME INVOLVED WITH EOSC DIH?

We found out about EOSC through the Horizon Europe programme and through following associated initiatives. We discovered the EOSC DIH when we were looking through the EOSC website upon discovering it.

WHAT SERVICES WERE USED?

We used EOSC DIH’s computational support through EGI, service expert consulting and support through OpenAIRE, as well as business strategy consulting, product design review and user testing support through the EGI DIH team. We also learned of many funding opportunities and succesfully received support through some of these thanks to EOSC’s support in our application process.

Finally, EOSC and it’s related services ran a number of events and conferences over the period of our pilot which provided a platform for us to demonstrate our system to early audiences and receive awareness, recoginition and support that helped us grow, network, be exposed to and accepted for further valuable opportunities, and reach the right audiences for our platform and business to grow.

WHAT’S NEXT?

We aim to release an open beta soon, currently targeted for end September 2023. This would have an initial set of key features upon which we can expand according to both our overall design concept as well as our users’ needs.
